SYRACUSE Syracuse University football coach Doug Marrone announced on Friday that the team has taken disciplinary action against linebacker Marquis Spruill and punt returner Steven Rene after a complete assessment of the facts surrounding an early December incident with Syracuse police.
Marrones edict is that Spruill will sit out a significant portion, of the Dec. 29 Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium, while the injured Rene will face the same punishment in the first game that he is medically cleared to play.
Spruill and Rene, both juniors, were arrested on Dec. 2 after a late-night incident off campus. Both were charged with disorderly conduct, while Spruill faces an added charge of harassment and Rene was charged with resisting arrest.
