OGDENSBURG Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop, 1111 Champlain St., opened Monday to long lines and tall orders.
It was a big success, Manager Clare M. Sheehan said Tuesday. Customers and our employees are ecstatic about the lines so far. Our drive-through went a little slower, but I dont think many people knew we had one.
Located in the Parkway Express convenience store building, the restaurant offers specialty coffee, pastries and doughnuts.
Business was steady Monday and Tuesday as customers waited to purchase popular holiday-themed treats such as double chocolate mint doughnuts and candy cane hot chocolate.
Founded in 1964 by National Hockey League player Tim Horton and a partner, it is Canadas largest fast-food restaurant chain.
There are 3,326 Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada. About 50 percent of the Ogdensburg franchises customers are Canadian, Ms. Sheehan said.
Because of our location, we get a lot of traffic from travelers, she said. Were the first and last stop before they cross the border.
The store employs 30 people, but that number could rise if business increases, Ms. Sheehan said. Corporate staff members are training employees this week.
People dont mind waiting an extra minute or two, she said. Everyone is just very excited to see it open.
Supervisor Lilliane D. Brassard said she and employees are happy about the restaurants warm reception.
I love it, Ms. Brassard said as she poured coffee. We needed something like this in Ogdensburg. Its a really positive thing for the community.
