CANTON Hooks and Antlers columnist Mike Seymours book Smart Guide to Freshwater Fishing has been well received as comprehensive and entertaining by novice and expert anglers alike. Seymour will hold a book signing from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 22 at St. Lawrence Universitys Brewer Bookstore.
The price of the book, which is classically illustrated, is $18.95 and is divided into three parts.
Part one covers the basics of freshwater fishing, from rods and other tackle, to where to fish, to rules, ethics, etiquette, and safety. It also offers instruction on how to properly prepare and eat fish. Part two explains the allure of all types of fishing from fly fishing to ice fishing, and details equipment, techniques, strategy and safety. Part three describes specific species of freshwater fish from season to season, from minnows, to pan fish, to game fish to the mighty sturgeon. This section covers fish habitat and habits and the proper presentation of live bait or lures to insure success.
An Ogdensburg native who now resides in Canton, Seymour has operated Captain Mikes Fishing Charters on the St. Lawrence River for 25 years. For many years he has authored the weekly outdoor column Hooks and Antlers, which appears in Sunday editions of the Watertown Daily Times and the Advance News, and the St. Lawrence Plaindealer which is published in Canton on Tuesdays.
