HARRISVILLE Kristin McGraw became Thousand Islands all-time leading scorer in basketball during the Vikings nonleague victory on Wednesday night.
McGraw, who surpassed 1,000 points last season, scored 25 to lead Thousand Islands to a 67-42 victory over Harrisville in girls basketball.
The accomplishment was a complete surprise to the senior, according to Thousand Islands coach Pete Pettit.
She didnt even know about it until after the game, Pettit said. I didnt want to put added pressure on her tonight.
McGraw, a five-year varsity player, needed 18 points to tie the mark and 19 to surpass Ben Auglianos record of 1,187 points, set in 2005.
Harrisville had beaten Thousand Islands last season, so the win was an added bonus, according to Pettit.
McGraw also provided seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Karly Sherman supplied 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals, and Allie Barton added 13 points for Thousand Islands (5-0, 4-0), which trailed by six after the first quarter, but outscored Harrisville, 22-8, in the second period.
Kathleen Coloney connected for 20 points, all in the second half, and eight boards for the Pirates. Chelsea Pierce added 10 points for Harrisville (1-1).
