Watertown, New York- Mary H. Macsherry, 94, died December 10 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

She was born November 23, 1918, in Detroit, Mich. the daughter James Sidney and Jean Chapman Hammond. The family moved to Pittsburgh, PA and she graduated from the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. She married Stewart W. Smith in 1942, he was killed in action while serving in the Army as a tank commander on Iwo Jima in 1945.

She later married Richard Rollin Macsherry, June 24, 1948.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a loyal friend to all those who knew her and loved to travel. Mary was a third generation resident of the 1000 Islands and enjoyed racing boats in Alexandria Bay.

Mr. and Mrs. Macsherry are involved in many philanthropic community activities. Mary was a volunteer at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, member of the Samaritan Medical Center Auxiliary, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, PEO Sorority, and founder of the Macsherry Library, Alexandria Bay. She was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church for over 50 years and served on the Altar Guild. She was also a communicant of The Church of St. Lawrence for 50 years and a member to the Altar Guild there also.

Mary is survived by her husband Richard R. at home; two sons, Stewart Macsherry, Cortez, FL and Richard H. and his wife Deborah Macsherry, Cape Vincent; a daughter and her husband Molly and Darden Macsherry MacWade, Jackson, MS; three grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St. Watertown.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, December 13, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Larrabe, officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Reception and calling hours will be in Macsherry Parish Center, Trinity Episcopal Church at 12:00 noon after the funeral service. Arrangements are with the Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown.
