The Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the death of “a minor child” at Fort Drum.

The child’s death occurred Monday, according to Christopher P. Grey, spokesman for the Criminal Investigation Command, Quantico, Va. He declined to specify the child’s age or sex.

No details will be disclosed until the investigation is “thoroughly” completed to spare the family any additional stress, he said.

The Army CID investigates all deaths on Army installations, he said, so CID involvement should not lead to the assumption that a crime was committed.

Jefferson County District Attorney Cindy F. Intschert confirmed that her office has been advised of the investigation, but said she can not discuss an Army investigation. The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed it is assisting in the investigation, but also declined further comment.

The Fort Drum public affairs office was unable to comment, referring questions to Mr. Grey.
