NORWOOD State Police at Massena are investigating the Saturday morning theft of a cash register from Clark-Robinson American Legion Post 68.
A burglar alarm call came in at 7:13 a.m. from the post at 10 Maple St., troopers said, and an eyewitness told investigators that he saw a man running from the building toward the woods with the register in his arms. Troopers with dogs and a helicopter converged on the area. The register was recovered later Saturday, apparently with nothing missing, troopers said Monday morning.
He got nothing, post Commander Elaine A. Saarinen said, adding that there was only minor damage to the building.
She believes the intruder was quickly scared off by the alarm.
Its a strobe alarm, Ms. Saarinen said. You can hear it. Half the village of Norwood probably heard it.
Following numerous interviews, troopers still are looking for the suspect, described only as an approximately 6-foot-tall male.
