WEST CARTHAGE — Engineer Kris D. Dimmick of Bernier, Carr & Associates, Watertown, presented the Champion Town Council with proposed changes to Sewer District 2 during the Dec. 3 meeting.

In September, the board applied for a grant to complete a feasibility study to determine the need for and cost of extending Sewer District 2 along Route 26.

According to Mr. Dimmick, state Environmental Facilities Corp. grants are available for predevelopment funding. The study would cost the town $36,000, with a possible $30,000 paid by the EFC grant.

The engineering firm would prepare a preliminary engineering report, complete the State Environmental Quality Review and conduct preliminary mapping, topography and archaeological surveys.

The sewer district would be expanded in the area around Carthage Central High School on Route 26 to serve new development in that area, including the Meadowbrook Terrace assisted-living facility.

Town Supervisor Terry L. Buckley expressed interest in expanding down Cole Road and up Route 26 toward Champion Heights.

“We have gotten positive feedback from people on Cole Road, even those who have septic systems. We have had some septic failure,” the supervisor said. “I want to look at going up the hill — there’s a lot of sewage up there, a lot of houses.”

Mr. Dimmick added, “A lot of old leach fields.”
