CAPE VINCENT An inmate at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility was arrested by state police Thursday morning on contraband and drug charges after corrections officers allegedly discovered he had ingested and brought amphetamines and other drugs into the state prison.
Eric M. McAlpine, 34, formerly of Gouverneur, was charged with violating public health law, first-degree possession of dangerous prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana.
State police said 20 packets of amphetamines, pot and synthetic marijuana, which he had ingested in a balloon, were found in his stool after he visited a latrine. Corrections officers were suspicious of Mr. McAlpines activities because he already was in prison on drug-possession charges, state police said.
He remains in the Cape Vincent prison.
