WINTHROP - A benefit spaghetti dinner is being held Sunday for the family of a Holmes Hill man recently diagnosed with bone cancer.

Patricia A. Guay said friends and family of David E. Wilson, 56, of Holmes Hill will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion post in Winthrop. “There is no set fee. We are accepting donations. There will be dinner music played by a disc jockey, and there will be a number of raffles,” she said.

Mr. Wilson, who recently accepted a new position at Alcoa after spending more than three decades working in the potrooms, was diagnosed with bone cancer approximately a month ago. He traveled to Boston this week for his first round of treatments.

Mr. Wilson and his wife, Ellen, a social worker at the Highland Nursing Home, have two adult sons. The family lived in North Lawrence for a number of years before recently relocating to Mr. Wilson’s childhood home in the town of Stockholm.

“They don’t know anything about the benefit. We just want to try to help them with their expenses for travel and lodging when they are going back and forth to Boston. They are such a caring couple, always helping people out. We just wanted to give back to them,” according to Ms. Guay, Mr. Wilson’s niece.
