MASSENA — Village police on Thursday impounded a delivery van following complaints about meat vendors going from door to door in Massena.

A half-dozen residents called police complaining about two men in a white van who were visiting village homes and trying to sell frozen meat products, police said. The men reportedly used aggressive tactics to enter homes and were persistent in efforts to make sales even when residents initially declined.

Police stopped a white van matching the description given by residents shortly afterward and impounded it for numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

No arrests were made, and the occupants’ names were not immediately available on Friday. Police said the men, who did not have a village sales permit, identified themselves as salesmen for Premier Steak and Seafood of Yorkville, in Oneida County near Utica.

A message left for Premier officials was not immediately returned Friday afternoon.
