CARTHAGE Former Carthage lacrosse star Casey Powell has signed a one-year contract with the Rochester Knighthawks.
Im hoping to bring leadership and experience to the team, Powell said. They won the world championship last year and I hope to help them repeat that.
Powell, a former all-star at Carthage and Syracuse University, was drafted by the Knighthawks as a first choice pick in 1998. Over the years he has played for various National Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse teams, most recently the Hamilton Nationals.
In the NLL he carries 254 goals, 341 assists for 595 points. He was the 2010 league MVP and was a representative of Team USA in the 2012 Champion Challenge.
The league champion Knighthawks start their preseason schedule Saturday. The season opener is Jan. 5.
