CANTON — Christopher J. Barney, 34, of 171 Cooke Road, Massena, was charged by state police Saturday with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon.

Mr. Barney was stopped for speeding, having illegal window tint and having an expired inspection sticker while driving in Canton, police said. Troopers said they found an illegal wooden billy club and Suboxone, an opiate, during the traffic stop.

Mr. Barney is scheduled to appear in Canton Town Court.
