The “We Remember” campaign for Jefferson County residents to assist the Hurricane Sandy victims of Nassau County has a truck and driver to make delivery and a drop-off schedule for donations.

Joseph L. Rich, co-chairman of the campaign committee, said Barry L. Waite, owner of Waite Toyota, has offered a truck and driver to make the trip to Long Beach, Nassau County. Delivery is tentatively set for Dec. 15.

Two drop-off locations for material donations, including children’s toys and cleaning materials, have been established at Walmart Supercenter, outer Arsenal Street, and at the former Sacred Heart School gymnasium, 320 W. Lynde St., according to Douglas Anderson, organizer of that portion of the campaign. He said the Rev. Richard Kennedy, pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, is allowing material donations to be brought to the gym between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The drop-off station in the Walmart parking lot will be manned on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mr. Anderson said.

Any organizations or businesses in other communities of the county that may be willing to serve as drop-off stations are asked to call this writer at 782-4878.

Meanwhile, cleanup work continues, and Mr. Corbett has listed unopened surface cleaning detergents, mops, brooms, dustpans and paper towels at the top of his department’s want list.

The “We Remember” campaign, focusing on Nassau County because of the support Nassau sent to Jefferson County following the ice storm of 1998, is also seeking cash donations. The Northern New York Community Foundation, 120 Washington St., Suite 400, Watertown, N.Y., 13601, is accepting such donations, and asks that checks made out to the foundation have “Nassau County” written on the memo line.
