Condlin’s career-high 24 points guide SLU men’s hoops

CANTON — Sophomore Brady Condlin recorded a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the St. Lawrence University men’s basketball team to a 70-58 victory over SUNY Canton on Sunday in a nonconference meeting at the Roos’ House.

Condlin shot 9-of-11 from the floor for the Saints (2-3), and junior Janpeter Brase scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Senior Kyle Miller added 12 points, including four 3-point field goals for 12 points, and had five rebounds for the Saints.

Khalid Vaughn scored 22 points for SUNY Canton (2-4) and Tyler Ellison and Michael Pulci each added 10 points.

The Saints owned a 42-28 margin in rebounds while limiting their turnovers to 10 and forcing 17 Canton turnovers.

JEFFERSON CC 65, ADIRONDACK CC 61

Ryan Tomlin finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots to help lift the Cannoneers to a Region 3 nonconference win over the Timberwolves at Queensbury.

Kenneth Thomas had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Derrick Williams scored 13 points for Jefferson CC (5-5 overall, 4-3 region), which came back from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Brett Smith supplied 13 points and nine rebounds, while John Joseph scored 14 points for Adirondack CC (0-8).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

SUNY CANTON 64, WELLS 54

Alicia Uhlein scored a game-high 20 points to pace the Kangaroos to a nonconference win in Aurora.

Tricia Boland scored 15 points for SUNY Canton (4-2), and Kaitlin Myers chipped in with 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Joelle Percy added 10 points for the Kangaroos, who led 35-17 at half.

Ashley Roser scored 17 points to lead Wells (1-5).

JCC 44, ADIRONDACK CC 41

Jasmine Canady’s 16 points led the Cannoneers to a Region 3 nonconference win over the Timberwolves at Queensbury.

Morgan Kiernan finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Tapulei Vaveao scored 12 points for JCC (4-6 overall, 3-4 region), which trailed 29-18 at halftime.

Jamie McLaughlin accounted for 12 points, and Shelby Graham added 10 points for Adirondack CC (4-3).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SUNY POTSDAM 2, SUNY CORTLAND 0

Junior goalie Dawna Salvarinas made 28 saves for her third career shutout as the Bears blanked the Red Dragons in an ECAC West game at Cheel Arena.

Junior Crawford and freshman Rachel Grefke each scored goals in the third period to lift the Bears (2-7, 2-5). Deanna Meunier finished with 36 saves for SUNY Cortland (1-8, 1-5).

VERMONT CLUB 2, SUNY CANTON 2

Riley Fountaine scored two goals, including the tying goal with 23 seconds left in regulation as the Catamounts club team rallied to tie the Kangaroos in Canton.

Grace Lyon scored unassisted 29 second into the game for SUNY Canton (3-8-1) and Steph Kushnir also tallied a goal.

Goalie Alyssa Altschuler had 25 saves for the Kangaroos.

SWIMMING

TAYLOR PACES SUNY POTSDAM

Senior Alexander Taylor topped his own school record for the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 6.12 seconds at the Fredonia Invitational.

Taylor, who also swam an NCAA B qualifying time in the event, also set a pool record in the 100 breaststroke in 58.70 seconds.

On Saturday, junior Richie Zimmerman set a Potsdam school record in the men’s 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.38. Both the Bears’ men’s and women’s team placed fourth in the event.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

SANDY CREEK DUALS

Shawn Widrick paced Lowville to a second-place finish at the Sandy Creek Duals on Saturday and was named the Red Raiders’ most outstanding wrestler.

Central Square won all five matches, led by Blake Englebrestson, and Lowville at 4-1.

Also named MOW was Zack Pfluger, who paced Sandy Creek (3-2) to a third-place showing, as well as Scott Hamblin of Copenhagen (2-3). which finished fourth.
