OGDENSBURG — The 29th annual Frederic Remington Art Museum Winter Wonderland holiday gala coming up on Saturday is about gaiety, celebration and raising funds for the shrine to the legendary north country Renaissance man.

It also is a joyous acknowledgement of the many people who organize the event.

Museum Executive Director Edward J. LaVarnway said he appreciates them all.

“We have a cadre of dedicated volunteers,” Mr. LaVarnway said. “This is the most important annual fundraiser.”

The gala’s silent auction is the “vehicle” for the fundraising, Mr. LaVarnway said. The 2011 event raised $20,097.

Gala Chairwoman Glory P. Martel said that she agrees the event “is a major fundraiser for the museum,” but that it’s also a time for fun.

“Where else can you find a night of food, music, dancing, friends and shopping all rolled into one?” Ms. Martel said.

“Maybe you are looking for a unique gift for someone hard to buy for,” she said. “There will be plenty of wonderful items for the silent auction that will be available from the start of the gala to the finish.”

Music will be provided by Lester Gates and Double Axle.

Portrait photography will be provided by House of Photography and Imagery.

Trevor Brunet of Simplicity Cafe, Ogdensburg, will serve gourmet appetizers and desserts. The Place, Ogdensburg, will tend a cash bar.

Tickets, which are $10 each or five for $40, will be sold for a drawing for Mr. Remington’s 1911 Collier’s magazine print “Benighted for a Dry Camp.”

Tickets for the gala are $50 for members and $55 for non-members. For reservations, call the museum at 393-2425 or send a check to the museum at 303 Washington St.

The museum will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 9.
