OGDENSBURG The St. Lawrence Federal Credit Unions proposed 10,944-square-foot expansion of its main office here was approved Thursday by the city Planning and Development Board.
The board voted 5-0 for both preliminary and final approval. Plans call for a two-story addition to the single-floor 4,608-square-foot office at 800 Commerce Park Drive that opened in 1990.
Credit union officials are anticipating growth and need more office space.
Construction will start in December and is scheduled for completion by June.
In approving the plans, the board legally overrode two recommendations by the St. Lawrence County Planning Office and agreed with a third. The county agency wanted the credit union to trim 11 spaces from its requested 47 spaces to cut down on blacktop and leave more greenery.
It also recommended that outdoor lighting be downcast, yet the city board decided it already was.
The city board did agree with the county that all trees removed during construction should be replaced.
Voting in favor were board Chairman Timothy J. Redmond and members Frank R. Perretta, Joshua Blair, Linda D. Pellett and Paul Stevenson.
The credit union also has branches at 333 State St. and at 11 Court St., Canton.
