BLACK RIVER The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state Department of Environmental Conservation are working on expanding the Black River flood plain.
DEC has been studying the river while there has been flooding, so there is a need to adjust the village flood plain, village Code Enforcement Officer David M. Lachenauer said. The redrawn map may affect people by requiring them to buy insurance.
Remapping would affect the town of LeRay, as well.
More than 30 village residents who may be affected have been notified of an informational session to be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the village offices, 107 Jefferson Place.
The new flood plain map can be viewed online at www.rampp-team.com/ny.htm.
According to DEC information for the town of LeRay, the effective flood maps are about 10 years old, and for the village of Black River, the effective study dated back to 1989.
