In honor of World AIDS Day, which is Dec. 1, the SUNY Potsdam AIDS Education Group will host a speaker, long-term HIV survivor Doug Weiss, from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in the College Theater, Satterlee Hall. He will discuss Thirty Years of Living with HIV and Counting.
The event is free and the public is invited.
This years World AIDS Day theme is Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination. Zero AIDS-Related Deaths.
The first case of AIDS was diagnosed in Los Angeles in 1981. Since then, more than 33 million people worldwide have been infected with the virus and more than 1 million people in the United States are HIV-positive, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
