The Hounsfield Town Council on Wednesday night agreed to a three-year deal with its highway department union, in a deal that will provide a 3 percent overall raise.
The deal will not change the departments health care plan, in which employees pay 10 percent of costs. Councilman Richard F. Young, the councils representative, described the negotiations as a smooth process and a fair one for both sides.
Mickey S. Smith, negotiator for the union and its eight employees, was not available for comment Thursday or Friday.
Announcing the deals completion, Councilman Stephen H. Lee thanked Mr. Young and noted the town in 2010 paid an outside negotiator $10,500 for their services.
Dont tell him that now, water Superintendent Jeffrey J. Kenney joked, drawing a large laugh from the council.
