Now that the campaign season is over we can finally get a break from all those awful ads. Most people know those ads and the huge sums of money that paid for them were unleashed by the Supreme Courts Citizens United decision.
But did you know were now one-quarter of the way to reversing that decision by amending the Constitution? As of Tuesday, we are. Twenty-four senators and 75 representatives have introduced or co-sponsored amendments to overturn Citizens United.
Eleven states have formally called for an amendment, including two, Montana and Colorado, where the voters statewide just voted on Tuesday to call for one.
The 11 states that have called for an amendment now include Hawaii, New Mexico, Vermont, Rhode Island, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Montana and Colorado.
The 2012 election was by far the most expensive election in U.S. history.
