POTSDAM A strong start helped the Clarkson University womens hockey team to a 4-1 win over Yale in an ECAC Hockey contest Friday night at Cheel Arena.
Clarkson (9-2 overall, 3-0 conference) scored three goals in the first period and outshot the Bulldogs, 17-7.
Danielle Skirrow, Brittany Styner and Vanessa Gagnon scored goals for the third-ranked Golden Knights in the opening period. Shannon MacAulay scored for Clarkson in the second period. Jamie Haddad scored for Yale (1-6, 1-4) in the third period.
ST. LAWRENCE 4, BROWN 1
Kelly Sabatine assisted on three goals as the Saints (5-5, 3-0) won their fifth straight game, knocking off Brown in an ECAC Hockey game in Appleton Arena.
Amanda Boulier, Rylee Smith, Abbey McRae and Sydney Bell scored for the Saints. Sarah Robson scored the only goal for the Bears (1-4).
SUNY OSWEGO 4, SUNY POTSDAM 0
Bridget Smith made 22 saves to lead the Lakers past SUNY Potsdam (0-4, 0-2) in a SUNYAC game in Oswego.
Lizzy Marks, Emma Smetaniuk, Mady Paul and Chelsea Hunt scored for SUNY Oswego (2-2-1, 2-1).

The Blue Devils fell behind by a goal early, but rallied to gain a SUNYAC win against SUNY Potsdam (2-2, 1-2) in Massena.
Chad Bennett, Taylor Bourne and Will McLaughlin scored for SUNY Fredonia (4-2, 3-1). Mike Riley scored for the Bears.
VOLLEYBALL
CLARKSON 3, NAZARETH 1
Adrienne Walker had 16 kills to help the Golden Knights (29-6) to a 25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 25-13 win over Nazareth in a first-round match of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Potsdam.
Clarkson will face Middlebury College in a second-round contest at 6 p.m. while SUNY Cortland faces Middlebury College in the other match at 3:30 p.m. The regional title match is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Victoria Kirkemo had 14 kills for Clarkson and Maria Allocco led Nazareth (22-15) with 10 kills.
KEAN 3, SUNY POTSDAM 0
Dakota Pruiss led the Bears (23-17) with 11 kills, but SUNY Potsdam fell 25-23, 25-22, 26-24 to Kean (28-10) in a first-round match of the ECAC Tournament in Union, N.J.
Rachel Auerbach and Sara Anderson each had seven kills for SUNY Potsdam.
CROSS COUNTRY
RICHARDSON LEADS KANGAROOS
SUNY Cantons Justin Richardson finished fifth overall at the USCAA championship race in Lake Placid, earning All-American status.
Richardson finished the 8-kilometer course in 28 minutes, 16.5 seconds. The mens winner was Dine Colleges Dustin Abeita, who finished in 27:36.61.
SUNY-ESF won the team title with 38 points and SUNY Canton finished fifth with 186.
SUNY Cantons womens team finished ninth with 279 points. The womens champion was Southern Virginia with 67 points. Stephanie Runyon of St. Mary of the Woods was the womens winner and SUNY Cantons top runner was Megan Mydosh, who finished 19th.
