Fuccillo Auto Malls Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep dealership will remain open while a new $1.5 million to $2 million building is constructed at the site at 10329 Route 11.
Site work began Wednesday, a day after the Adams Planning Board approved site plans for the 16,200-square-foot building. The Jefferson County Planning Board also approved the plans earlier in the day.
Gerald B. Morgan, general manager of the dealership, said Thursday that the project has been in the works for several years but was delayed when the national economy took a downturn in 2008.
The new building will be constructed on the dealerships parking lot, and the existing 12,000-square-foot, 44-year-old structure will be demolished when the new one is completed in the spring. DC Building Systems Inc., Watertown, is the general contractor.
Donald E. Clark, owner of DC Building Systems, said the building just became obsolete and the dealership needed a new look.
Its going to be a beautiful building, Mr. Morgan said. Its the right time.
The new dealership will feature a larger showroom, a service area, a two-story parts departments and a quick lube area. Fuccillo employs 35 people at the dealership.
Fuccillos Chevrolet dealership on Route 11 will undergo a major upgrade next spring, as a part of the national car companys marketing program, Mr. Morgan said. A Ford dealership also makes up the Fuccillo Auto Mall in Adams.
