State Sen. Patty Ritchie is spending three times more than her Democratic opponent, Oswego County Legislator Amy Tresidder. And she still has more money than she knows what to do with.
Mrs. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, spent $31,136.65 in the run-up to the election. Mrs. Tresidder, of Oswego, spent $8,623.18.
With 11 days left, Mrs. Ritchie has a formidable $103,009.85 in the bank. Mrs. Tresidder has $14,030.87.
The general election is Nov. 6.
Mrs. Ritchie's campaign is clearly confident: It transferred out $15,000 to the Senate Republican Campaign Committee on Oct. 26. The SRCC helps lift campaigns in competitive districts in a very non-Republican way. Republicans in safe districts will transfer money to the SRCC, which helps the SRCC give out money to candidates in districts that are competitive. In other words: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
So Mrs. Ritchie's donation shows that Republicans aren't taking the Tresidder campaign very seriously. Interestingly, Mrs. Ritchie transferred out a little bit more money than Mrs. Tresidder had in the bank.
Most of the $8,573.18 that Mrs. Tresidder spent was on television ads.
