Gov. Andrew Cuomo has endorsed his fellow Democrat, Rep. Bill Owens, in his campaign for Congress.
Mr. Cuomo, the popular first-term governor, said in an Owens campaign news release: "Congressman Owens has shown a serious commitment to strengthening New York's economy and is working hard every day to help create jobs in the state."
Mr. Owens, who's running for his second full term after winning a special election in 2009, faces Republican Matt Doheny on Nov. 6. Politically, Mr. Cuomo is in an off year, and is often discussed as a potential 2016 presidential contender.
The imprimatur from Mr. Cuomo is more noteworthy than usual for an intra-party endorsement; Mr. Cuomo has proved that he's willing to endorse Republicans on the state level, backing two state senators who voted to approve gay marriage.
But on the federal level, endorsing a Republican for Congress is exceedingly unlikely (a weasel word for, "ain't gonna happen").
