FORT DRUM — Several members of the post’s military and civilian leadership on Tuesday morning met with Gen. Dennis L. Via, the new commanding general of the Army’s Materiel Command.

Gen. Via, who assumed his new role Aug. 7, toured the post and spoke about future plans, including potential funding cuts.

“There’s opportunity in declining resources that I think will force us to make the decisions we need to make to improve and make our force better as we go on,” Gen. Via said, according to an Army released statement.

The statement also said the post’s 10th Mountain Division was the first division to receive a visit during Gen. Via’s tour. Gen. Via will tour installations across the state and nationwide as he enters the command role.
