FORT DRUM The posts 3rd Brigade Combat Team will be one of eight Army units to receive Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, also known as MRAPs, equipped with a new Army communications system, a brigade spokesman confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
The Capability Set 13, a combined package of radios, satellite systems, software applications and smartphone-style devices, is said to help provide better connectivity for soldiers on the move from static tactical operations centers. The vehicles, pairing the new technology with the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical system, will accompany the brigade on deployment in 2013, according to a press release on the Armys website.
The 10th Mountain Divisions 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Polk, La., will receive the systems as well, and also is listed for a deployment in 2013.
