POLITICO reports today that the farm bill won't come up for a vote before the Nov. 6 election, according to House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.
“We will deal with the farm bill after the election,” Mr. Boehner reportedly said.
The current farm law expires at the end of September, so expect some hand-wringing quickly to ensue.
UPDATE:
A statement from the campaign of Republican Matt Doheny, running for Congress against Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh:
"This is terribly disappointing news for our famers and families, who have become pawns in election-year politics. As an outsider, I'm frustrated by the lack of leadership from both sides of the aisle. After realizing there are too many on the far left and far right who do not support this bill, politicians decided to point fingers instead of sit at the table and find common ground. This is another sad chapter in an ongoing saga about the lack of real solutions coming out of Congress."
