RICHVILLE Holcomb V. Huse, 76, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, with his wife of nearly 50 years at his side. He had been a patient for two days.
Holcomb was born December 4, 1935 in Ogdensburg, the son of C. Burton and Frances Nevin Huse.
Holcomb graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology, and performed graduate studies at St. Lawrence University and Syracuse University.
He married Mary Ferguson, the daughter of Gerald and Mary Ferguson of Watertown, in St. Lukes Church, Rochester.
After high school, Holcomb worked in construction on the St. Lawrence Seaway Iroquois Dam before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he enrolled at RIT.
Upon graduation from RIT, he worked at Eastman Kodak in Rochester. Holcomb then taught art for thirty years, first at Heuvelton Central school and then from 1969 until his retirement at Gouverneur Central School.
Holcomb served on the Richville Village Board for several years and as mayor for 12 years. He was a member of the Richville Vol. Fire Department for over 20 years and the Richville Masonic Lodge for many years. Holcomb was a lifelong outdoorsman and nature lover.
Holcomb is survived by his wife Mary, a daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Michael Granzow of Manlius and their children Maura and Brooke, a son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Gina Huse of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and their children Jordan and Jacqueline, and his brother William C. Huse of Parrish, FL. He was predeceased by a son Richard, his parents, two brothers Richard Nevin Huse and George Huse, and a sister Mrs. Martha (Eldon) Sears.
There will be no funeral service and calling hours are Sunday, September 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
