First independent poll of NY21 coming Monday

The Siena College Research Institute will release the first independent poll of the 21st Congressional District on Monday morning, the institute announced Friday.

The race is between Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, and Republican Matt Doheny of Watertown. Don Hassig is on the Green Party line.

A few things to watch for: How are the candidates doing in the new part of the district? How are they doing in the old part of the district? How's Mr. Hassig doing, and if he's polling at, say, 3 percent, is there any chance of him actually attaining that in the general election?

Stay tuned for Monday morning. A Democratic poll earlier this year showed Mr. Owens up, and no Republican poll has been released, though the Doheny campaign has surely been conducting polls.
