Copenhagen tops Lyme in FL girls soccer opener

CHAUMONT — Emma Roberts scored two goals and Claire Stackel tallied a goal and an assist to propel the visiting Copenhagen girls soccer team to a 5-1 Frontier League “D” Division victory over Lyme in the season opener for both teams.

Logan Wheeler chipped in with two assists for the Golden Knights (1-0) and goalie Lindsey Fitzpatrick made four saves.

Lauren Barry scored an unassisted goal for the Indians (0-1) and Lauren Campbell finished with 12 saves.

ALEXANDRIA 3, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 1

Emma Kearns, Morgan Weaver and Caitlyn Burrows scored a goal each to pace the host Purple Ghosts in the “D” Division season opener for each team.

Goalie Rachael Calhoun made four saves for Alexandria (1-0).

Kellie Sherm scored unassisted for the Panthers (0-1) and goalie Karlie Maloney finished with eight saves.

SACKETS HARBOR 3, LAFARGEVILLE 2 (OT)

Rainy Johannessen slotted home a rebound in the 99th minute to give the Patriots a win in their “D” Division opener over the Red Knights in LaFargeville.

Johannessen scored twice for Sackets Harbor (1-0). Emily Schultes provided two assists.

Destiny James made 19 saves for LaFargeville (0-1).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 2, INDIAN RIVER 1 (OT)

Lara Podvin netted a goal in the 88th minute to give the Spartans a crossover win over the Warriors in Adams.

Molly Denny had a marker for South Jefferson (1-0). Jackie Decker stopped 13 shots.

Paige Fayette scored for Indian River (0-2). Lakeisha Barnes made 11 saves.

CARTHAGE 3, GENERAL BROWN 1

Cassie Birth scored a goal in each half to pace the Comets to a crossover victory in Carthage in the season opener for both teams.

Mackenzie Kidder also scored for the Comets (1-0) and goalie Haley Ryan only had to make one save to earn the win.

Danielle Meraz tallied a goal for the Lions (0-1) and goalie Morgan O’Hearn made nine stops.

IHC 4, A-P-W 2

Vera Freda generated a goal and two assists as the Cavaliers rallied for a season-opening crossover victory against the Rebels in Watertown.

Rachel O’Brien and Olivia Miles had goals for Immaculate Heart Central (1-0).

Kylee Bartlett bagged a pair of goals for Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (0-1).

BEAVER RIVER 2, LOWVILLE 2 (OT)

Reagan Becker scored unassisted with 3 minutes, 56 seconds remaining in regulation as the Beavers forged a tie with the Red Raiders in a “C” Division game in Beaver Falls.

Anna Bush also scored for Beaver River (0-0-1) and goalie Genevieve Fidler made 11 saves.

Mckenzie Marti tallied unassisted in the 70th minute to give Lowville a 2-1 lead and Isabelle Hanno scored in the first half.

Alexa Yousey finished with nine saves for the Red Raiders (0-0-1).

THOUSAND ISLANDS 3, SOUTH LEWIS 0

Katelyn Docteur tallied with two seconds left in the first half as the Vikings opened their “C” Division slate with a victory over the Falcons in Turin.

Ashley Howard and Allie Barton also had goals for Thousand Islands (1-0). Aliceson Cornaire stopped all six shots she faced.

Miranda Rys turned aside 13 shots for South Lewis (0-1).
