FORT DRUM — Following complaints in the past few days of smoke coming from fires on post ranges into neighboring municipalities, post officials said they’re aware of the issue.

“There’s nothing pleasant to have smoke coming off of a range,” post spokeswoman Julie A. Cupernall said.

She said the fires followed air support and bombing training on Range 48, near Natural Bridge. While the explosive materials makes it impossible to send firefighters to the range, she said current fires could prevent larger wildfires later.

Ms. Cupernall said she had not heard any complaints on the matter since Monday.

People with concerns about the smoke can contact the post’s public affairs office at 772-5461.
