Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, is launching his first ad in the Watertown media market — very similar to his first ad of the campaign in the Albany market, but with a few subtle changes.
First, instead of saying that we can create jobs in "upstate New York," he says we can create jobs in the north country.
And instead of talking about tax cuts for businesses, Mr. Owens talks about Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division that is just north of the city.
He cites a figure — $400 million — as proof that he's helping expand the installation. That money, campaign manager James Hannaway said, is from the National Defense Authorization Act, which Mr. Owens voted to approve.
His Nov. 6 opponent, Matt Doheny, might have something to say about that expansion. Mr. Doheny, a Republican, has criticized Mr. Owens' "wait-and-see" approach to a potential missile defense site at Fort Drum. Mr. Owens says he wants to hear from military leaders on the project.
Still the same action-movie motif, though.
The ad will air in Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Lewis counties starting on Sunday.
