The Watertown City School District Board of Education was finally able to approve Joseph M. McGrath as interim high school principal during its meeting Tuesday.
He will be paid $350 per day without benefits. His term is effective from Tuesday to June 30.
The board initially had to wait for the state education commissioners approval of a Retiree Employment Waiver, which allows a retiree younger than 65 to receive more than $30,000 annually.
He will serve at the high school while a bigger pool of candidates is sought to succeed former Principal Lloyd L. Peck, who resigned in June to become Chenango Forks Central School Districts superintendent.
