Hoffman endorses Bisso

Doug Hoffman, a conservative tea party icon in the north country, endorsed Republican Karen Bisso in her effort to unseat Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru.

Mrs. Bisso, a Plattsburgh educator, is running in a Sept. 13 primary against Ms. Duprey and David Kimmel. The Democratic candidate is Tim Carpenter, a Plattsburgh city councilman. Mrs. Bisso has the Conservative Party line, while Ms. Duprey has the Independence Party line, so both will be on the Nov. 6 ballot, regardless of the outcome.

Mr. Hoffman took Ms. Duprey to task for using a "retirement" loophole to collect a pension after many years in state government, while still being a government employee.

"Don’t you think it’s time for Janet Duprey to take the retirement we taxpayers are already paying for?" Mr. Hoffman said in a news release Thursday.

He also chided Ms. Duprey as a liberal on some issues. Ms. Duprey voted in favor of gay marriage, for example.

Carl Paladino, the 2010 GOP gubernatorial nominee, also supports Mrs. Bisso. Establishment figures, though, consider a Bisso or Kimmel victory a long shot.
