Watertown- Ruby J. Shannon, 87, formerly of So. Massey St., passed away August 8th at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she has resided for the past year.
The funeral will be 6 pm Friday, August 10th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Calling hours are From 4 pm - 6 pm prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
Ruby was born one of fourteen children in Watertown, December 26, 1924, a daughter to Walter and Jessie Henderson Fenlong. She was educated in Carthage schools. Following her education, Ruby worked at Empsalls Department Store in Watertown for many years.
She married Michael P. Shannon, June 6, 1943. Mr. and Mrs. Shannon owned and operated Shannons Plumbing and Heating in Watertown for many years. Mrs. Shannon served as bookkeeper for the business until their retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Shannon was a long time active member of Hope Presbyterian Church and later Stone Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies were knitting, ceramics, stained glass and cooking.
Besides her husband Michael P., Sr., Ruby is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean Gould and her fiancé Michael Murphy of Watertown; Ann (Bruce) Paige, Cape Vincent. Her daughter-in-law, Kathy Shannon, Watertown. Six grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Her sister Betty Williams, Watertown. Several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Michael P., Jr. and 12 brothers and sisters.
