State police say the same day a man and woman were charged with shoplifting, they went out and did it again.
Anthony C. McBee, 18, of 409 Stockton St., Dexter, and Betty A. Moffatt, 30, of 1218 Gill St., Apt. 2, were arrested Saturday on petit larceny charges stemming from a $53.76 alleged shoplifting on the evening of July 8 at Hannaford SuperStore, outer Arsenal Street. Store security video helped identify them as the shoplifters, a trooper said.
The investigation revealed that was not their first alleged theft that day, the trooper said.
They had earlier been detained at Sears, Salmon Run Mall, where they were accused of a $162 theft in merchandise. After being cited in that incident, they were released with orders to appear in Watertown Town Court and then they went to Hannaford, the trooper said.
Ms. Moffatt, who was charged in April by Watertown police with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, was arraigned Saturday on the petit larceny charge before Brownville Town Justice Richard M. Parker, who released her on $350 bail.
Mr. McBee was handed another court summons.
