SYRACUSE The Syracuse University football team will hold a preseason training camp at Fort Drum from Aug. 12-18, culminating in a scrimmage for 10th Mountain Division Soldiers and their families on the last day.
Players will practice on Sligh Field, hold meetings at Army Batallion Headquarters and sleep in soldier barracks. In addition to regular practices, players will go through Army Physical Training and small unit leadership seminars, among other various military activities.
■ The Orange football team will hold its annual Fanfest on Friday, Aug. 10 at the Lampes Athletic Complex.
The event will begin at 3 p.m., with team practice scheduled for 3:20-5:30 p.m. on the Schwartzwalder and Katz practice fields behind Manley Field House. An autograph session will take place immediately after practice.
During Fanfest, the Joe Vielbig Track, located next to the practice fields, will host several fan activity stations along with food, beverage, and merchandise tents.
The ticket booth will also be open with a variety of season or single-game ticket packages available, including travel packages for the 2012 New York College Classic between the Orange and Southern California on Sept. 8 at MetLife Stadium.
Syracuse will kick off the regular season at noon on Saturday, Sept. 1 against Northwestern at the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
