CARTHAGE — A funeral home in the village is calling for the public to take to the sidewalks Tuesday to support the family of Sgt. Daniel A. Rodriguez, a Fort Drum soldier killed in Afghanistan on July 18.

Sgt. Rodriguez, a Baltimore native, was one of two soldiers killed when an improvised explosive device hit the vehicle he was traveling in through Ghazni City.

According to a statement from Lundy Funeral Home, 500 State St., Sgt. Rodriguez’s family decided to hold a funeral service and bury him in the area as a tribute to his time with the post’s 10th Mountain Division.

The procession, led by the The Patriot Riders Guard, will travel from the funeral home from 2 to 2:30 p.m. and proceed into West Carthage, where it will turn right on North Broad Street, then turn left on Route 126 and continue to Watertown. Sgt. Rodriguez will be buried in Brookside Cemetery.
