Jefferson Community College will offer a new health care class next month through a partnership with Boston Reed College, Napa, Calif.
Clinical medical assistant courses will begin Aug. 6 and will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Phlebotomy technician courses, which are not new, will start Aug. 15 and will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.
Its estimated that 20 percent of new jobs through 2014 will be located in the medical industry, and the majority of these positions will be filled by individuals with four years or less of training, said Kim Hutto, associate program manager, in a released statement. These programs will offer local adults affordable training that can lead to sustainable job opportunities in the health care industry.
