MASSENA Adam Ortiz, 26, of 73 Indian Village Road, Hogansburg, was charged by state police at 2:15 p.m. Friday with nine counts of possession of a forged instrument.
Mr. Ortiz is accused of trying to cash stolen checks using a forged signature at SeaComm Federal Credit Union, Massena.
He is not accused of stealing the checks, which were taken from Douglas and Denise Taillon, or with forging the signature, only with trying to cash them. Troopers said they are investigating who took the checks and how they came into Mr. Ortizs possession.
He is being held at St. Lawrence County jail, Canton.
