■ New York state’s economy added 15,400 private-sector jobs, or 0.2 percent, in June, the state Labor Department reported last week. Despite the gain, the state unemployment rate climbed to 8.9 percent, up from 8.6 percent in May.

■ Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for St. Lawrence County following last week’s storm that tore roofs off several buildings in Potsdam. The declaration allows Mr. Cuomo to direct state resources toward local governments in need as well as the authority to suspend any rules or regulations that may impede relief efforts.
