Seeking to better coordinate thunderstorm relief and response efforts, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo declared a state of emergency for St. Lawrence County Thursday afternoon.
The declaration allows Governor Cuomo to direct state resources toward local governments in need, as well as the authority to suspend any rules or regulations that may impede relief efforts.
New York State will continue to deploy whatever resources are necessary and do whatever is needed to protect New Yorkers in the north country and ensure an effective and timely recovery, Governor Cuomo said in a press release Thursdau.
Winds from Tuesdays thunderstorm gusted at more than 60 miles per hour and tore off several Potsdam roofs, and thousands across the county were left without power.
