"EVANS MILLS – John J. O’Brien, 38, of 31285 Gardnerville Road, was charged Monday by state police with two misdemeanors in connection with his alleged disciplinary action against his 9-year-old son.

Charged with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, he was released without bail by LeRay Town Justice George E. Mead III to await prosecution.

Police said the boy was slapped several times.
