Those concerned about Eastern equine encephalitis can get free mosquito treatments at offices in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.

The treatments — packets of larvicide that can be used to treat standing water, including small pools, birdbaths and ornamental ponds to kill developing mosquitos — are being made available to homeowners through a partnership with the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Jefferson, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties, according to a news release from state Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton. The treatments are funded with a state grant obtained by Mrs. Ritchie.

The treatments are available at the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, 21168 Route 232, Watertown, and the St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District, 1942 Old DeKalb Road, Canton.
