Jack E. Shelmidine 82, of 95 Spring St., passed away Wednesday afternoon, at home after a short illness.

The funeral service will be 11:00AM Monday, July 9th, at the Adams Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Rev. Walter Giles officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery following the service.

Calling hours will be 4:00 to 7:00PM Sunday, July 8th, at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.

Jack was born May 10, 1930 in the Town of Lorraine, a son of Everett P. and Josephine H. McClear, Shelmidine. He was a graduate of Adams High School and a graduate of SUNY Morrisville. He married Joan Taylor June 21, 1958 in the Adams Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Following graduation he worked in Tulsa, OK for American Airlines for a few years, returning to the North country, Jack worked as an inspector on the building if Interstate route 81, he was a machinist for Black & Clawson in Watertown. He worked at Thomas Poultry in Adams, then worked for the Town of Adams at it’s landfill, where he was still employed at the time of his death.

Jack enjoyed gardening, hunting, working in the woods, cutting firewood and producing maple syrup, and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Joan; his children, Jack E. (Karen) Shelmidine II, Betty Shelmidine, Timothy J. (Joanne) Shelmidine, Karl E. (Kimberly) Shelmidine, Lisa A. (John Scovel) Shelmidine, and Matthew J. Shelmidine all of Adams, and Melinda J. (Tom) Mase of Knoxville, TN; 12 grandchildren, Whitney, Gus, Nolan, Megan, Jennifer, Avery, Timothy, Kyle, Joshua, Richard, Katelin and Noah; 3 brothers, E. Paul Shelmidine and Stanley A. Shelmidine both of Lorraine, and Robert M (Bunny) of Belleville; 4 sisters, Roberta Stillman of Rushville, Helen Farman of Watertown, Madeline Segouin of LaFargeville and Ida Mae Holland of Lorraine. He was predeceased by a sister, Isabelle Averys.

Jack was a member of the Adams Emmanuel Episcopal Church and it’s Vestry, and a member of the Teamsters Union.
