Ogdensburg Pepsi edges Moose Lodge 4-3 in Kiwanis final

A tie-breaker separated No. 2 seed Moose Lodge and No. 1 seed Ogdensburg Pepsi during the regular season where the Kiwanis Senior Grasshopper Co-Leaders tied matched 13-2 records. After both teams prevailed on Monday evening in Kiwanis Senior Grasshopper League Semi-Final playoff action, just one run was the difference in the championship game on Tuesday/

Berkelei Duprey knocked in a pair of runs with a triple to rightcenter field in the fourth inning as the Ogdensburg Pepsi Cola Bottlers rallied from a 3-2 deficit for a 4-3 victory.

Duprey plated Donnie Baker and Matt Rector who worked the count to a walk to lead off the fourth inning for coaches Scott McCormick and Joe Brenno.

“It was a terrific battle between two closely match teams,” said Coach Brenno.

Ethan Baldwin and Justyn McCormick struck out 10, allowed seven scattered hits and one walk pitching the victory. Jared Barr and Garrett Piercey surrendered five hits and three walks and struck out 11 for the Moose.

The Moose Lodge took a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Jared Barr doubled, Broadie Woods singled in run, Garrett Piercey reached on a walk , Kyle Flynn singled and Mason Stone plated another run with a single.

Pepsi answered with a one-out rally as Mitchell Brenno singled, Ethan Baldwin tripled home a run and Justyn McCormick followed with a single.

Piercey lined a two out single in the second inning for Moose which eventually got out of second and third situation in the bottom of the third after Baldwin singled and McCormick reached on a walk.

Pepsi got out of a mini jam in the fourth inning with the bases loaded after Tyler Horton reached on an error, Barr walked and Piercey singled.

After stopping the Moose, Pepsi scored twice on back to back walks to Baker and Rector and Duprey’s two run triple.

Mason Stone was stranded at first in the fifth and after a 20 minute rain delay, Barr lined a one out single in the sixth but the Moose couldn’t score the tying run.

Also contributing to Pepsi’s win were: Kyle Trembley, Grant LeBeau, and Cale Sargent. Playing well for Moose Lodge coaches Stan Piercey and Rob Woods were: Mecci Johnson, Chris Cole, and Caleb Legault.
