GOUVERNEUR — A Potsdam man accused of assault with a wooden stick was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday by Gouverneur-based state police.

Codey A. Royce, 22, of 38 Ames Road, Potsdam, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Mr. Royce was allegedly captured on video demanding items from Uncle Tom’s Head Shop, 1435 County Route 24, then hitting employee T.J. Mashaw shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday. Mr. Mashaw was hit in the head, the right hand and the left forearm with a wooden stick, troopers said.

Mr. Royce then left the shop and discarded the items in the area, troopers said.

He was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton.
