HAMMOND - On Sunday afternoon when diplomas were awarded at Hammond Central Schools annual commencement ceremonies, 18 students received their degree.
The Class of 2012 included:
Bradley Neuroth, Colton Tate, Robyn Crosby, Kaitlyn Morgan, David Matthews, Megan Martin, Matthew Kron, Joshua Beutel, Shelby Tate, Thomas Hollister, Ericka Rider, Shannon Stewart, Linda Mason Philips, Kasey Bogart, Cassandra Hunter, Peter Pease, Meagan Panunzio and John Hunter.
Forty-eight awards and scholarships were presented to students.
The Hammond Grange annually presents an award to the student who has done the most for his or her class. This year the award went Shelby Tate.
Clede and Shelley Spooner presented an award to the salutatorian. This years salutatorian is Robyn Crosby. Ms. Crosby earned a 3 ¾ year average of 95.95.
The Hammond Free Library annually presents an award to the senior who has read the widest variety of literature. This year the award went to Shelby Tate.
An award is presented to the senior who has shown the most improvement during their high school years. This year the award goes to Linda Mason-Phillips.
The St. Lawrence Agency presents awards to the senior boy and girl with highest grades in driver education. This years winners are Bradley Neuroth with an average of 94 and Kaitlyn Morgan and Robyn Crosby with an average of 95.
An award was presented to the senior with the highest grade on the Algebra II/Trigonometry Regents exam. This year the award went to Kaitlyn Morgan with a 94.
Annually, an award is presented to the senior with the highest grade in Math 12. The award went to Kaitlyn Morgan with a grade of 99.
The Hammond Masonic Lodge #861 annually presents awards to the seniors demonstrating the highest ideals of citizenship. This year the lodge selected two recipients, Thomas Hollister and Shannon Stewart.
L.P. Thompson Insurance Agency Ltd. gave three awards this year. The first is to a senior pursuing a career in the Military. This award went to Matthew Kron. The second award was given to a senior attending college for Engineering. This award went to Bradley Neuroth. The third award was for a student attending college for a Communications Degree. The award went to Megan Martin.
The Chippewa Bay Fish and Game Club presented a conservation award to Thomas Hollister.
The R.T. Elethorp Historical Society award goes to the senior who has shown the most improvement in Social Studies this year. The award went to Kasey Bogart.
The Ogdensburg Pepsi-Cola Fine Arts award is given annually to the senior who has contributed the most to the improvement of the Fine Arts program through excellence in instrumental music, drama, vocal music, public speaking or art appreciation. The recipient of this award is Kaitlyn Morgan.
The Citizens National Bank presents an award to the Valedictorian. This years Valedictorian is Kaitlyn Morgan with a 3 ¾ year average of 98.1663.
The Hammond Fire Department Scholarship is given to students who have demonstrated sincerity of purpose, achievement, and desire to pursue a technical or professional education or joining the Armed Services. This year there were four recipients: Kaitlyn Morgan, Shelby Tate, Colton Tate and Matthew Kron.
The Citizens National Bank of Hammond annually presents an award to the senior with the highest five unit average in a Business Education major. This year the award went to Robyn Crosby.
The Hammond Area Health Center presented an award to two seniors who are furthering their careers in the medical field. This year the award went to Robyn Crosby and David Matthews.
The Citizens Telephone Company gave two awards to the students who have exhibited exemplary work ethics throughout their high school years. This years recipients were David Matthews and Robyn Crosby.
The PTO also awarded a monetary scholarship for the student who demonstrated outstanding qualities of a successful citizen and contributing community member. The award went to Kaitlyn Morgan .
The Hammond Teachers Association Scholarship is presented a student who is continuing his/her education. This year the award goes to Kaitlyn Morgan.
The United States Air Force presents the Technology Education Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technology Education. This year the award went to two recipients: Kasey Bogart and Ericka Rider.
Ella Bass scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior in Honor of Ella C. Bass, who was employed by HCS for 39 years as a teacher aid. This year, the student who most exemplified the qualities demonstrated by Ma Bass was Cassandra Hunter.
The Brier Hill Department is presenting two awards to students whose parents or themselves is a member of the Hammond Fire Department. This years recipients were Matt Kron and Kaitlyn Morgan.
The Hammond Athletic Association awards a scholarship to an outstanding senior athlete who has shown leadership and sportsmanship while maintaining academic success. This years recipient was David Matthews.
The School Related Personnel is presenting a scholarship to a senior that is continuing his/her education and who has a parent belonging to their Union. This year the scholarship goes to Shelby Tate.
North West Tech gives achievement awards to students who excel in their Career & Technical Education program. This years recipient was Ericka Rider.
Happily Ever After presents an award to the senior who has shown the most organizational skills and creativity when planning fundraisers and class events. The award goes to David Matthews.
The Canton Goldennaires Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior in St. Lawrence County who is planning to continue their education. This year the scholarship went to Kaitlyn Morgan.
The following students were recognized for winning the following college scholarships: Robyn Crosby; Augsbury/North Country Scholarship, Barbara MeHaffie Memorial Award, Clarkson Scholarship, Alfred Presidential Scholarship, Ka Imi Ike Scholarship, Abraham Kellogg Scholarship, U Sciences Merit Scholarship, George Eastman Young Leaders Award, SLU Presidential Achievement Award. David Matthews won the Potsdam Freshmens Award.
The Indian River Lakes Conservancy awards scholarships each year to a senior who is planning to further their education in the field of science. This year the award went to David Matthews.
Davis Country Cabins presented an award to a senior pursuing an education in the Business field. The award went to Shannon Stewart.
The Bella Brooke Vineyard presented an award to a senior that has assisted in the startup of their vineyard and winery by planting and picking grapes since it was established in 2008. The recipient was Shannon Stewart.
Shear Images Salon presented two awards this year. The first is to a student that is hard working and has the perseverance to achieve her goals and entering the field of cosmetology. The award went to Cassandra Hunter. The second student went to a student that has the ability to see the bright side of every situation with an optimistic attitude. The award went to John Hunter.
The CSEA St. Lawrence County Local 845 is presenting an award to a senior whose parent belongs to the Union and is attending college in the Fall of 2012. The award went to Kaitlyn Morgan.
The Concerned Residents of Hammond is presenting an award to a deserving senior who has displayed a sense of pride in their town through their actions. The award goes to Kaitlyn Morgan.
The following businesses and community members award a scholarship to students for submitting an essay with a topic of their choice: NEDs General Store, Dr. James Tague, Furgison & Son Co., Marsaw Fuel, L.P. Thompson, Truax and Sons, St. Lawrence Agency, Fun to Fish, Marcella Lavarnway and St. Lawrence Supply. This years recipients are: Bradley Neuroth, Shannon Stewart and Robyn Crosby.
We also have scholarships from a friend of education. One of the members of the community feels very strongly that students should be encouraged to go on to higher education. This years recipients are Robyn Crosby, David Matthews, Kaitlyn Morgan and Bradley Neuroth.
Awards were also given in memory of students, teachers, staff and community members who have been a vital part of our school in the past years.
The Mildred G. McCourt Memorial Award is given in memory of Mildred McCourt who taught many years in Hammond Central School. The award goes to a senior who has shown to be scholastically and morally an outstanding student, and shows good social attitudes towards teachers and peers. This years recipient was Peter Pease.
The John Caitlin Memorial Award, given by David and Barbara Marsaw, and is presented to the senior with the highest ideals of scholarship, sportsmanship and leadership. This years recipient was David Matthews.
The Francis C. Gardner Memorial Scholarship presented three scholarships this year. Presented to a senior displaying a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. This years recipient was Ericka Rider.
Brian Tate Memorial Award is presented to a senior boy who has participated on the boys baseball team and has been hard working, helpful, supportive, cooperative, and shown a real love for that sport. This years recipient was Colton Tate.
The Lloyd & Bethany Felt Memorial Award is given in the memory of Lloyd a long time teacher and assistant principal of Hammond Central. This year the award went to John Hunter.
The Hugh C. Pitcher Memorial Award is given by the Pitcher family in memory of Hugh, as all his friends called him, to a graduating senior who is pursuing his/her education. This year we had two recipients: Megan Martin and Tommy Hollister.
Jay Gladding was a student of ours in the seventh grade and he will be greatly missed. He will be remembered as an inspiration for all of us in terms of courage and being able to smile during hard times. The family has chosen to give an award in his name and this year the award goes to Josh Beutel.
The James J. Sullivan Sr. Award is given in his name for a senior who has shown outstanding service to the community, dedication to Hammond Central School and is of high work and family values. This year the award went to David Matthews.
The Edward Salamacha Memorial Award is given in the name of Ed Salamacha to a senior who has played baseball/softball and is continuing his/her education at a two or four year college or conservation program. This year the award went to David Matthews.
The Nathaniel True Townsend Memorial Award is given to a college bound senior pursuing a Business/Broadcasting or Graphics career. Nathaniel graduated from Hammond in 1993 and will be remembered as the radio voice during the 1998 Ice Storm. This year the award went to Meagan Panunzio.
The Keith (Mac) McCartha Memorial Award is given to a graduating senior displaying the most artistic ability. Keith was member of Hammonds Class of 1994 and will be remembered as a very creative and unique person. This year the award went to Peter Pease.
The Patricia S. Ceresoli Memorial Award is presented to the senior student who most resembles the caring, thoughtful manner in which Mrs. Ceresoli approached each and every day of her life. This year the award went to Kaitlyn Morgan.
The Menzo H. and Miriam J. Preston Scholarship Fund is presented to a senior who is attending an accredited Junior College or regular College program and has the highest average in English which has been computed from the final year grades for the 9th, 10th, 11th and the January mid-term grades for the 12th year. This years recipient was Kaitlyn Morgan .
The Bessie Gallagher-Rush memorial award is given annually to a senior who demonstrates the values of charity, compassion and community spirit. This year the award went to Thomas Hollister.
