CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - COLTON A Colton man accused of causing several thousand dollars of damage was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony, by Canton-based state police at 3:10 p.m. Monday.
John C. Sabin, 40, of 1 Morgan Camp Road, Colton, is accused of causing $2736.53 damage to local trees in an incident first reported May 5, troopers said. Mr. Sabin was arrested at 319 Morgan Road.
FELONY DWI - MADRID Ogdensburg-based state police charged Michael F. Danson, 38, of County Route 14, Madrid, with felony counts of driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated. The misdemeanor DWI charrge was elevated to a felony since Danson reportedly had a previous driving while intoxicated conviction within the past 10 years. The DWI charge was elevated to an aggravated count after he recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.18 or higher. Mr. Danson was charged following a 9:45 a.m. Monday incident when his vehicle struck a tree off Campbell Road in Waddington. His BAC was measured at 0.24 percent, three times the 0.08 percent that constitutes a DWI charge, troopers said.
DWI - COLTON Benedikt P. Thrana, 23, of 8580 State Route 56, Raymondville, was charged at 12:25 p.m. Monday with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated by Canton-based state police.
Mr. Thrana was stopped for failure to signal and using improper license plates on state Route 56. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent BAC, troopers said.
RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT - GOUVERNEUR A Gouverneur man was arrested by Gouverneur-based state police Monday at his home after hitting a car while attempting to shoot a squirrel earlier this month.
Leonard M. Zaffarano, 62, of 1267 County Route 12, Gouverneur, was charged with reckless endangerment of property, a misdemeanor.
Mr. Zaffarano missed the squirrel he was intending to shoot with a .22 calibre long rifle, instead hitting the car of another person, whose information was unavailable, troopers said.
The incident occurred on June 16. Mr. Zaffarano was issued an appearance ticket, troopers said.
